BSI HISTORY

BSI has been working as an active standardization company since the time standards were first introduced. This era started from 1901 and since then, BSI has been increasing collaboration with experts in almost all and advanced fields. 1920: During 1920s, BSI standardization spread to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa as well as USA and Germany.

1929: A royal charter was granted to Engineering Standards Committee.

1939-45: During World War 2, efforts were concentrated to develop over 400 standards regarding war emergency and the ordinary standards work was stopped.

1945: BSI Kitemark issued a license to copper pipe fittings. It is the longest-running BSI Kitemark.

1946:  BSI organized a conference in London regarding Commonwealth Standards. This led to the development of International Organization of Standardization (ISO)

1951: To develop the standards which affect the domestic consumer, a Women’s Advisory Committee was established.

1955: A new Kitemark testing facility was opened at Hemel Hempstead. Government regulations also made it compulsory for the car seat belts and motorcycle helmets to the application of BSI Kitemark.

1979: The first management systems Quality Standards BS 5750 of UK was published. It initiated the series of ISO  9000

1995: The first Asian office of BSI (BSI pacific Ltd., Hong Kong) was established.

1999:  BSI acquired Singapore based Certification Organization and opened its offices in India, Brazil, Poland, Spain, France, Korea and Japan. 

2001:  BSI Eurasia Office was opened in Istanbul, Turkey.

2003: BSI gained the status of Business Super brand.

2006: BSI expanded to Australian and German Markets.

2010: BSI opened its offices in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

2014: BSI Standard Awards were officially inaugurated to recognize the outstanding contributions of the 10,000 independent experts’ community as well as 1,200 committees.

 2016: BSI entered the Information Security Consultancy market with the acquisition of Espion UK and Espion Ltd.
